EyeSight uses two cameras, and both live on your windscreen.

Most manufacturers use a single forward camera. Subaru uses two, mounted either side of the rear-view mirror, working as a stereo pair to judge depth and distance the way your eyes do. It's an excellent system, and it is unforgiving of a sloppy windscreen replacement.

Because EyeSight measures distance from the difference between two images, the geometry between those cameras and the road has to be exact. A screen fitted even slightly off, or glass with the wrong optical properties, degrades the whole system. Adaptive cruise, pre-collision braking and lane keeping all depend on it.

This is not a job to hand to whoever quotes cheapest. Recalibration after replacement isn't optional on an EyeSight car, and we complete it with the proper equipment and targets on our levelled workshop floor at Strathfield South.

Subaru EyeSight relies on a camera reading the road through your windscreen. We recalibrate it as part of the replacement, using Hella, Autel and TEXA equipment, and give you the report.

What we watch for

Fitting glass to a Subaru

The details that separate a replacement done properly from one you'll be back about.

Stereo camera recalibration

Both EyeSight cameras are recalibrated against manufacturer-specified targets on a levelled floor — the only way the stereo geometry comes back correct.

Optical quality matters more here

EyeSight reads the world through the glass in stereo, so we fit screens to the correct specification rather than the cheapest sheet that fits the aperture.

Workshop job, not a driveway job

Static calibration needs a level floor and fixed targets. We're upfront that EyeSight cars come to us rather than us coming to them.
